Estyn is led by Meilyr Rowlands, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales (HMCI). He is supported by two Strategic Directors, a Corporate Services Director and five Assistant Directors. Our distributed leadership approach means that nearly all staff have some lead role or responsibility.
All corporate staff are based in our Cardiff office, while Her Majesty's Inspectors (HMI) are home-based. Read more about inspector roles.
Strategy and Executive Boards
An Executive Board, comprised of executive members, supports and assists HMCI in leading and managing Estyn.
A Strategy Board, consisting of executive and non-executive members, sets and monitors Estyn's strategic agenda. The Strategy Board has two sub-committees; the Estyn Audit and Risk Assurance Committee and the Remuneration Committee. Find out more about Non-executive Directors and Senior Officers through the menu at the top of this page.
Estyn maintains a register of interest for Board members and for all permanent employees, secondees and temporary staff. No member of the Board holds directorship or other significant interests which might conflict with their management responsibility.
