The Annual Report of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales 2013-2014

Summary

The Chief Inspector’s Annual Report is published every January, and provides analysis and commentary on the performance of education and training in Wales during the previous academic year.

The 2013-2014 Annual Report draws on findings from inspections carried out during the same academic year.  This year there is a focus on those groups of learners who are at risk of underachieving and on the ways in which schools and other providers support them to achieve, including those with multiple risk factors.  The report also considers ways in which providers can support more able learners, and those with English as an additional language.  The impact of wellbeing and attendance on achievement is considered, as well as behaviour and the way that providers tackle forms of bullying.

There is also a detailed analysis of the impact of follow-up inspection, with a look at the time taken by schools to come out of follow-up, and a summary of the progress made by local authorities that were previously placed in follow-up categories.  A separate appendix document presents the inspection outcomes data for all providers inspected during 2013-2014.
