The professional learning continuum: mentoring in initial teacher education

The report is intended for the Welsh Government, providers of initial teacher education (ITE), headteachers and staff in schools, local authorities and regional consortia. The report is intended to provide a base-line study for the reform of ITE in Wales. The report focuses on the development of student teachers’ critical thinking, reflection and evaluation as vital skills for professional learning, the mentor’s role in developing these skills, and how involvement in mentoring in ITE impacts on and relates to professional learning in schools more generally. Moderation of teacher assessment at key stage 2 and key stage 3: a review of accuracy and consistency

The findings of the survey are based on visits to eight cluster moderation meetings, two in each of the regional consortia, followed by visits to two schools in each cluster. During the visits, inspectors considered the effectiveness of cluster moderation meetings and of schools’ internal procedures for ensuring accurate teacher assessment. Inspectors focused specifically on the moderation of English, Welsh and Welsh second language. The impact of the Additional Training Graduate Programme (Teach First) in Wales

This report is published in response to a request for advice about the effectiveness of the Additional Training Graduate Programme (ATGP) in Wales from the Welsh Government in the Minister’s annual remit letter to Estyn. The report is intended for the Welsh Government and leaders and staff of the ATGP in Wales and their partnership schools. It may also be of wider interest to participants (that is, trainees on the Teach First programme), to leaders and staff who work in schools, and to those who work in teacher education and training. This report is published in response to a request for advice from the Welsh Government in the Minster’s annual remit letter to Estyn 2014-2015 about the statutory use of leadership standards in the performance management of headteachers. This report is intended for the Welsh Government, governors, headteachers, senior leaders and staff in schools, local authorities and the regional consortia. This document links to the Estyn survey ‘Best practice in leadership development in schools’, published in June 2015.
