Section 1 outlines what we’ve achieved during the year. We:

  • Delivered our schedule of core inspections alongside a substantial programme of follow-up visits
  • Published 12 thematic reports
  • Worked to develop our new inspection arrangements, including a further public consultation and 18 pilot inspections
  • Responded to 20 Welsh Government consultations and gave evidence to seven National Assembly Committees – more than ever before
  • Hosted the first Estyn awards dinner
  • Increased the number of best practice case studies we publish on our website
  • Ran two major regional conferences on leadership in primary schools with over 300 schools attending
  • Increased the number of peer inspectors we train. It now stands at over a thousand
  • Continued to work jointly with other inspectorates and regulatory bodies on inspections and thematic surveys.
  • Continued to have a highly engaged workforce. Estyn’s Civil Service people survey results placed us first out of the 98 organisations who participated
