Adapting teaching and learning – Annual Report 2020-21 insights

Our final blog in this year’s Annual Report series focuses on how settings and schools adapted their teaching and learning. Our short animation also shares some of the practice we heard about through our engagement activity in 2020-21.

Preparing for Curriculum for Wales

Schools and settings were forced to think anew about not just what they teach, but how and why they teach it.

As they continually adapted their practice, they showed flexibility and creativity. This mindset and energy will be vital for implementing the Curriculum for Wales.

The importance of digital learning grew. Strategies for learners across all sectors were strengthened. Many leaders prioritised professional learning to support staff in this area. This led to far better online learning offers in many sectors for the second national lockdown.

Emerging practice

Stacey Primary School, Cardiff, is one of the many cameos in the report that brings to life how providers adapted teaching and learning. They used digital tools and online learning to progress pupils’ skills in listening and speaking, particularly those for whom English was an additional language.
